Basin man arraigned on burglary/theft charges

A Basin man appeared in BHC Fifth Judicial District Court on Tuesday, Oct. 5, to be arraigned on burglary and theft charges.

Jacob Shaw is charged with a felony count of burglary and a misdemeanor count of theft.

Travis Smith, Shaw’s attorney, entered not guilty pleas to the charges.

While October brings awareness to breast cancer, it is also a month that brings awareness to domestic violence.

Purple ribbons are appearing in various locations, bringing awareness to the issue.

This summer has been a busy fishing summer.  William Walker of Basin just completed the Western Native Trout Challenge, which is to catch six native trout species in four states. 

Public input sought for former Eagles building location

The Town of Basin is seeking input for what to do with the area where the Eagles Building was located. Councilman Carl Olson is leading the committee looking for ideas. One idea that has been confirmed is planting a large pine tree. The tree will be the town Christmas tree. In addition to seeking ideas, volunteers are needed to serve on the committee with Olson.

A Basin man recently made an appearance in BHC Fifth Judicial District Court in regards to charges alleging he threatened a man with a firearm in June.

Free fishing poles one of the highlights of Family Fun Day in Basin

Some people who came to the Basin Recreation/Town of Basin fun day on Saturday walked away with new fishing poles from North Platte Walleyes Unlimited. The fishing portion of the day was from 7 - 11 a.m. at the town raw water pond.

Rodeo honors Cowboy Hall of Fame inductees

Tucked in between the mutton busting and the bronc riding, this year’s Big Horn County Fair rodeo began with a special presentation celebrating the four men from Region 6 who are being inducted in the Wyoming Cowboy Hall of Fame.

This year’s class of 43 inductees includes three men from Big Horn County, Jim Caines of Hyattville, Gene Bischoff of Powell, and the late Andy Gifford of Lovell, and one from Park County, the late Dick Skeen of Hyattville.

Art Shelter show to feature works of local migrant laborers

“We Are More Than Our Labor,” an art show featuring the works of Big Horn County’s migrant workers, will be presented Saturday, Aug. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Art Shelter, which is located east of Shell off U.S. Highway 14.
