Dinosaur and Geoscience Museum secures rare fossils

The Big Horn Basin Dinosaur and Geoscience Museum [BHBDGM] announced the acquisition of two new specimens on Friday, Aug. 23, during the museum’s annual paleontology barbecue. Dr. Erik Kvale shared with guests that the museum has obtained a clutch of 24 extremely rare Allosaurus eggs.
In addition, Kvale announced that the museum has also secured a full skeletal cast of a juvenile Allosaurus skeleton nicknamed “Al Junior” from the Black Hills Institute.

Communities join travel sticker program

The artwork of a Lovell woman was the inspiration behind a Wyoming Office of Tourism travel promotion.
Janet Dunn answered the call in February for artists to create a painting to represent the various highlights of Big Horn County that could be discovered by the traveling public during a visit. Her painting included wild horses, Big Horn Canyon, Shell Falls, the Big Horn Mountains, a dinosaur, dinosaur tracks, roses and lilacs.

Write-ins join the race for Basin, Manderson councils

Four write-in candidates have accepted nominations and entered the race for expiring town council seats in two south Big Horn County communities.
In Basin, Mike Dellos, who received votes in the recent primary, will join Linda Weeks, Stuart DesRosier and Carl Olson in vying for a pair of four-year terms.
The other write-ins, Thea Saunders, Sharon Sanford and Howard Applegarth, joined Judy Bury in the race for two four-year terms on the Manderson Town Council. Saunders received 11 write-ins, Sanford nine and Applegarth seven.

For the week beginning August 5th, there were 3,914 cars traveling between Basin and Greybull. These cars carried a total of 10,964 passengers. Wyoming licenses were carried by 2,752 of this total and foreign state licenses by 1,162. Two-thousand-five-hundred-and-nine cars were making local trips and ,1344 were classified as through travel. The maximum travel for any one day was on Sunday, when the total was 628 cars, and the minimum travel was on Tuesday when the total was 506 cars.

‘No judgement. Just help’ theme of first 988 Day

September is National Suicide Awareness Month. For the first time, a day has been chosen as 988 Day. It is September 8. The theme is “No Judgment. Just Help.”
The day was established to raise awareness about the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.  It will be an annual day from here on out.
