Mother’s Day Brunch at BCAC
 Treat your mother this Mother’s Day to brunch at the Basin City Arts Center Ballroom from 10 a.m. to Noon this Saturday, May 11.
Breakfast burritos, fruit salad, coffee, and juice will be served. For your pleasure take time to enjoy the tablescapes on display - creations by local artists depicting a special scene.

The following calls were received by the Basin Police Department last week (Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and charges made upon initial arrest may be amended or dismissed as determined by the County Attorney):
April 29 — 10:20 a.m.: Deputies initiated a traffic stop at South Big Horn County Airport on Hercules Road in Greybull. A warning was issued.
10:48 a.m.: Deputies at Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office in Basin assisted community relations.

Travel economic impact for 2023 up from previous years

In 2014 direct travel income spent was $28.4 million in Big Horn County. In 2023 the direct travel income spent was 40.1 million. In 2022 the travel income was 38 million. This information came from the recently released Wyoming Office of Tourism (WOT) 2023 travel impact report. Average gas prices down slightly in Wyoming

CHEYENNE (WNE) — Average gasoline prices in Wyoming have fallen 2.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.27 per gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy.com’s survey of 494 stations in Wyoming.
Prices in Wyoming are unchanged versus a month ago, and stand 9.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the lowest price in the state Sunday was $2.82, while the highest was $3.96, a difference of $1.14 per gallon.

Mr. Eric Ericson was over from Otto and reported a fire, which destroyed his nine room house yesterday morning between 12 and 1 o’clock. The fire was caused by the explosion of a gasoline lamp. As the gasoline was thrown all over the room in which the lamp was located, it was but a few moments until the whole place was a roaring furnace.

Program matches teens, mentors for big-game hunt

CODY - Take on a new challenge and hobby this fall - and maybe even bring home some meat for the freezer. Kids ages 12-17, women and families in the Big Horn Basin who want to learn to hunt are invited to apply for a mentored hunting program that culminates with a fall hunt for a doe white-tailed deer. Applications are due by May 13.

Wyoming’s gray wolf population continues to achieve all management goals, according to the 2023 Wyoming Gray Wolf Monitoring and Management annual report by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and partnering agencies.

Mild winter puts Leavitt on fast track

A Saturday was required to complete one of the biggest undertakings thus far in the expansion of the Leavitt Reservoir northwest of Shell.
Rounding up nine of its mixing trucks, which it couldn’t have done on a weekday without shutting down one of its plants, Big Horn Redi-Mix delivered 29 loads of concrete to Leavitt site, where employees from Big Sky Civil Contractors and Montana Civil Contractors formed the foundation of a 90-foot outlet works tower.

March for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People is May 5

The annual march for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) is Sunday, May 5 in Riverton. The march starts at 11 a.m. on Riverton’s main street and rallies at the Riverton City Park band shell. This is where a Circle for Healing will take place. This year’s theme is “We March for Them.”
Last year, a riderless horse with a red hand print was a part of the march. Organizers note that those who wish to participate may walk, ride a horse, bike, ATV, motorcycle, etc.
They just ask that participants wear red.

‘We The People’ challenges Riverside High School students

On Tuesday, April 16th Riverside High School’s junior government class held its “We The People” hearings as part of the district assessment.  
Teacher Stuart DesRosier said this is a very challenging assignment where the students prepare a written response to difficult constitutional questions and present them to a panel of judges from outside the school.  
After their presentation, the judges asked them questions concerning their answers.
