Police officer returns to duty

CODY (WNE) — Cody Police Officer Blake Stinson has returned to duty after an investigation into a complaint filed against him in May, according to a press release from the City of Cody.
The complaint was regarding Stinson and another officer attempting to arrest a 17-year-old, after he  allegedly failed to yield to a pedestrian at an intersection. Edited body camera footage uploaded to YouTube showed Stinson and the other officer grabbing the 17-year-old driver by the neck and pulling at his arms as they tried to remove him from the vehicle.

Solar eclipse will be visible in Western U.S. Saturday morning

GILLETTE (WNE) — When Wyomingites look up at the sky Saturday morning, they should be able to see a partial eclipse.
During an annular solar eclipse, the apparent size of the Moon’s disk is slightly smaller than the apparent size of the Sun’s disk, so that only the outer edge of the Sun remains visible. For those who are inside the path of the eclipse, this will give the appearance of a bright ring of light, hence the name, ring of fire.

Manderson Police Chief questions increase in dispatch fees and disputes statements made about his department

Manderson Police Chief BJ Kidgell spoke to the county commissioners at their Oct. 3 meeting. He wanted to address his concerns and observations about a proposed increase in fees and comments that had been made at a commission meeting in August.

Fair sponsoring logo contest

At the Oct. 4 Big Horn County Fair Board meeting, the board voted to sponsor a logo contest.  The desire for a new logo has been a discussion for some time.
Fair manager Cash Duncan put together a proposal for board members and they approved it at the meeting.
Duncan has already contacted art teachers from the various school districts within the county. He is also making flyers to distribute throughout the county.

Facebook, PayPal and Instagram ripe for scams

A woman in Greybull had her Facebook page hacked. The hacker took over her page and posted a “moving sale.”  A variety of items were listed at extremely low prices. When people wanted the item, the hacker asked for earnest money to hold it.
The woman made a new FB page. She tried to warn people on the old FB page that it was a scam. The hacker blocked her and removed any posts from her or others that warned people.

Trunks wanted for Basin Trunk ‘n’ Treat

The Basin Rec Department is hosting a Truck ‘n’ Treat Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m.
The event will be held of the Riverside football field. The theme this year is old-fashioned Halloween.

G&F announces new hires in Cody region

The Cody region of the Wyoming Game and Fish has announced the hiring of Spencer Carstens as access coordinator and Heather Sterling as his replacement as Thermopolis game warden.
In his new role, Carstens will oversee hunter management areas (HMAs) and walk-in hunting and fishing areas for the Cody Region. In the Big Horn Basin, there are 78 walk-in areas and 14 HMAs providing hunters free public hunting access to nearly 400,000 acres of private land and inaccessible public land.

Survey says: Mental health services most pressing need

Local residents who completed a recent online survey for Three Rivers Health identified mental health services as the most pressing need that would improve the health of their family and neighbors.
The question was part of a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), the purpose of which was to provide a functioning tool to guide the hospital as it develops its plans to not only to care for the sick, but work to improve the overall health of the community it serves.
