Beautification Committee adds Yard of the Week category, shifts focus to map and upgrades to Russell Park
The first two projects for the Basin Beautification Committee were the Welcome to Basin billboard and Yard of the Month. The billboard is up. The committee met last week to vote on the Yard of the Month.
During the meeting, the committee decided to do a small and large yard of the month because so many homes were nominated. They felt the residents of the town were really stepping up and it was hard to choose just one.
The July large home of the month was awarded to the Urbachs on North Seventh Street. The small yard of the month was given to Delmar Kleckner at 620 Richardson. Keleckner was nominated by the committee and by a neighbor. Committee member Robin Marich said it was exciting that a neighbor made a nomination as it shows community involvement.
Two of the projects the committee is working on starting in July are a map of Basin and enhancing Russell Park (located at C and Fourth).
The map of Basin will show locations of business, parks, recreation opportunities such as the fishing pond, boat ramp, etc. There is also plenty of room for advertising. Once complete the map will be available at the town, chamber and advertisers’ businesses. It will also be included in relocation request packages sent out by the chamber. Members of the committee will be visiting businesses with rate information.
The second project is Russell Park. The town crew will be rehabbing the flagpole to ensure it is in working order and sound. The committee has ordered a Town of Basin flag to fly from it.
The town crew will also trim trees, replace the black plastic edging and add a dog poop station with bags. The town has a line item for beautification. At the same time the committee is hoping the community will step in to help with new flowers in the planter, pulling weeds and power washing the bricks of the planter/flagpole base and possibly purchasing new benches.
The community may help financially and/or show up at a workday on July 12 at 9 a.m. If you would like to be involved please contact Councilperson Linda Weeks at 307-250-0588 or call the town at 307-568-3331.
