Huskies see personal bests in Greybull

Burlington had a small contingent at the Bill Gerrard Memorial Invite on Saturday.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had so few kids at a track meet,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “With the ACT test that morning, as well as spring break, we were down to about a fourth of our team. But for those that were able to go, it ended up being a nice meet. The weather was beautiful and Greybull always does a nice job hosting.”

The Huskies still saw personal bests in their small group and Olson had a high praise for those athletes. “Bradford Davidson saw personal bests in his 400 and 800 races. He’s been doing a lot more of the workouts with our distance crew and his hard work is really paying off. He will be a big part of a couple of our relays later this year. Connor Hoyt won the mile race and looks to go under five minutes this week in Powell. Jordan Casey took home first place in the triple jump and is close to what he did at the end of last year. Freshman Wyatt Garland also threw personal bests in both the shot and disc. I’ve been impressed with Trigdon Aagard with his sprints and throws. Sometimes it’s hard as a freshman to compare your throws and times with kids a lot older, but the work you do as a freshman pays dividends later. He has a great attitude as well as our other young athletes.”

On the girls side, Madison Aagard and Dalley Basset also improved in their throwing events and Paxton Philpott has improved her jumps from previous meets.

“It’s hard to believe that regionals is only five weeks away. We are doing everything we can to make every practice and every workout count. Each athlete is doing their best to improve each week and progress. We hope to see that continue this week,” said Olson.

The Huskies will be in Powell on Saturday at the LA Kohnke Powell Invitational. Field events will start at 9 a.m. and the sprint medley relay and 3,200-meter relay will start at 9:15 and all other running events at 11 a.m.
