Seventh annual Home for the Holidays Nov. 29 in Basin
BY BARBARA ANNE GREENE
Seven years ago, a group of volunteers came up with an idea to celebrate the holidays in Basin. The seventh Home for the Holidays is Nov. 29 in Basin.
Like always, there will be a lighted parade, food, cookies, hot chocolate, Santa and Mrs. Clause, The Festival of Trees and fun at the library.
This year the day kicks off at 10 a.m. at the Basin City Arts Center with a silent auction and favorite tree voting. The Christmas move “Home Alone” will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Arts Center. The movie is free. The voting for the favorite tree ends at 5:30 p.m. Bidding for the trees ends at 7 p.m.
At 4 p.m. a vendor show at the South Big Horn County Water District opens. There will be a variety of vendors. Public bathrooms will be available in the district as well. Please enter the door on C Street.
Also at 4 p.m., Stockmans Café and Bar is hosting cookie decorating for kids in the café plus hot toddies specials for the adults starts at 4 p.m. too. Copper Corner Café opens at 4 p.m. They will be serving chili and cinnamon rolls until 7 p.m. Mad Jack’s Western Burritos is opening just for the celebration. They will be serving taco soup and nachos from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Get Smashed Burger Bar will start to serve at 5 p.m. on the street between Security Bank and Basin City Art Center.
Basin First Baptist is serving free cookies and hot chocolate at Russell Park. In front of the Post Office Two Guys a Poppin will be popping and selling their kettle corn. Next to them the Church of the Later-day Saints are giving away free cotton candy. Circle F Sales at the corner of B and Fourth Street is serving their freshly made donuts.
At 6 p.m. the courthouse lights will be flipped on, followed by the lighted Christmas parade. The parade starts at Fifth and C Streets. It will go east on C street until Fourth Street. It will turn south on Fourth and travel for a few more blocks.
Heading up parade this year is Basin’s own elf, MauRena Scott. She will be sprinkling the road with sparkles to lead the town of Basin’s fire truck with special guests. Those special guests are Santa and Mrs. Claus. After the parade the Clauses will be under the Water District’s pergola in the Basin’s Heritage Commons to greet children at the southeast corner of C and Fourth Streets. Santa will be presenting warm hats and gloves to the children as well as treats. Also in the commons is the Town of Basin’s Christmas tree with free ornaments for all.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Big Horn County Library in Basin is hosting free hot chocolate, tea, cookies, crafts for kids and a book sale.
Parade entry forms are at Basin’s town hall or at the Basin Republican Rustler. They are due Nov. 24 at 4:55 p.m. The town of Basin is also providing propane heaters throughout the town to keep parade watchers warm.
A flyer with the complete schedule is in the Basin Republican Rustler this week (Nov. 20) and on the Town of Basin’s Facebook page.
