Wyoming-born author visits Basin Schools

A children’s book author, writing workshop instructor and mother of five was in Basin on Feb. 19.

Amanda Rawson Hill spoke to fourth graders from Laura Irwin Elementary (LIE) and Ten Sleep, as well as the Lovell and Burlington middle school Challenge of the Books teams. Several Riverside Middle/High School classes also joined.

Hill grew up in Rock Springs.  She got a degree in science but turned to writing when she experienced difficult times in her life.  She soon learned that writing was her passion and pursued it full time.  She now resides in Atwater, Calif., with her husband and children. She loves to knit, homeschool, make music and volunteer in the community.

Big Horn County School District No. 4 librarian and Destination Imagination advisor Cassie Russell said, “Amanda reached out to rural schools in Wyoming last fall and offered to come do author visits for free.  I jumped at the chance to have a professional author at our school because it can be an impactful experience for students.

“Amanda asked if we would be a central host for schools in the area and of course we said yes. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate Ms. Hill for stopping at our school and providing the students with this experience.”
