‘Old’ guys beat young guys in alumni game
The old guys’ team, aka alumni team, beat the 2024-25 Riverside boys basketball team by eight points Friday, Jan. 3 in fundraiser hosted by the Basin Rec District.
Proceeds will be split between the Rec District/Community Center and the Rebel boys basketball team.
Basin Rec program coordinator Cash Duncan said, “There were lots of generous donations by many families and we appreciate what everyone was willing to do for both organizations by being there and donating beyond the admissions cost.”
The graduation years of the alumni ran from 1994 to 2024. They sat on the home side of the bleachers and were the home team on the scoreboard. The team cited “this is our home gym, their (current team) home gym is up the street. They will play as the away team.”
Duncan said the game was a great success for community involvement, alumni banter, memories, and experience. The alumni shared their thoughts with the younger boys after the game, explaining “what it means to be a Rebel” while emphasizing that “lots of great athletes in Basin have returned to became great community members and they should one day look forward to playing in this same alumni game.”
The alumni also advised the current players to “strive to do what it takes to be great on the court now and an involved community member later in life.”
