‘Welcome to Basin’ billboard features local businesses
The red/black billboard on the North End of Basin will be transformed into a Welcome to Basin sign. In addition to the Welcome message, local business names will be listed.
Councilwoman Linda Weeks brought the idea to the Basin Town Council and the Basin Beautification/Revitalization Committee. It was quickly embraced as a great idea.
At one time, the billboard invited travelers to stay in Basin’s free campground. The sign was paid for and designed by the Basin Chamber. Adjacent to the campground were the town tennis courts and a playground. Potable water and electricity were available for free. The Big Horn County Detention Center is located there now.
The sign was spray painted over and stayed that way for a few years. About 10 years ago, the Basin Area Chamber paid to have the sign painted with the message to drivers to slow down.
An idea was floated to the Basin Town Council to change the sign to Home of the Riverside Rebels. The sign was painted black & red, but no verbiage was added.
Members of the beautification committee are going to businesses in town asking if they would like a listing on the sign. The cost is $76 for a year. There are only 22 spots for the listings available. The projected installation date is June 16.
The picture accompanying this story is a concept of what the sign will look like once the spots are filled. Interested businesses should call Wende at 573-378-7861 or Diana at 307-263-8226.
