4-H sets aim for State Shoot in Douglas

Big Horn County 4-H will take a crew of six to the State Shoot in Douglas July 10-13. 

Among the shooters is Cydney Brown of Basin, coming off her second County Shoot junior archery championship in May. 

“Cydney ought to do really well,” predicted Dan Holloway, who leads the group with wife Sarah Holloway.

Brown will be joined by James Davis, Veda Morgan, Casen Foster, Carson Cook and Sy Schlattman, who between them will be shooting archery, rifle and shotgun and reside across Greybull, Basin, Burlington and Lovell. 

Dan Holloway noted that this is a young crew, filling out the junior category between ages 8 and 11, and a smaller one than usual. Big Horn County typically rounds up about 15 kids to compete in shooting sports. 

“Our kids have done really well in the past,” Holloway said. “It’s a pretty tough competition.”

With around 60 expected to enter, missing one shot may put competitors out of the running.
