Steve Allred has accepted a position as a fulltime officer with the Lovell Police Dept. Allred, who is originally from Lovell, owns CodeRed Tactical on Nevada Avenue in Lovell.
Chief Nick Lewis said Allred is a good match for the job because he already knows the area well and brings many valuable skills to the position acquired through his military training.
Lewis said he plans to have Allred, who is an expert firearms instructor, train other officers. Allred began training earlier this month in a ride-along capacity. He will also attend the police academy in Douglas in the near future.
Allred joined the Marine Corps in 2006. He was later promoted to the rank of sergeant. He began his service in the Marines as an amtracker and later became a firearms instructor and armorer for his fellow Marines. He was honorably discharged in 2010, after serving his country.
After his discharge, he realized that he still wanted to be involved in the type of profession that would allow him to use the skills he had practiced in the Marines. He worked in the private security industry for a while in California. He later returned home to Lovell and opened the gun store, which has been a very successful business in town.
He said he is happy to be home and looks forward to being a part of the Lovell Police Dept.
