Beware out-of-state influence in our elections

Dear Editor:
As we head to the polls next week to cast our vote, it is important that we know who our candidates are and have done our own research on voting records, endorsements and current issues.
We have had aspiring politicians move into our communities from out of state and run for state office shortly after getting established in our community. Why did they choose our community, and what are their motives?
Also, do your research on who is endorsing the candidate of your choice, and what special interest groups are sending out mailers every week. We need to do our own research and not just blindly believe that these special interest groups are what and who they appear to be. A lot of these groups are from outside of our state. Why is it important to them to get involved in our elections?
Voting records are easy to check, yet so many people don’t look into them. If you have a question or don’t understand why a legislator voted the way he or she did, pick up the phone and give them a call. Their phone numbers are easy to find on the state web page.
Check into all candidates and vote for the one who you believe will do the best job in the position they are running for. We need to take mailers and issues on candidates’ web pages with a grain of salt. All too often, they don’t tell the entire story. That is why I believe that it is important to do your own research.
