BHC had state’s highest unemployment rate in February

Big Horn County had the state’s highest unemployment rate in February, according to a report released earlier this week by the Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.

Big Horn County’s unemployment of 5% was well above both the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 3.5% and the current national unemployment rate of 4.1%.  A year ago, the state’s unemployment rate sat at 2.8%.

The two Wyoming counties that came closest to Big Horn County were Niobrara, with a 4.8% unemployment rate, and Park, at 4.7%.  The state’s lowest unemployment rates in February were found in Teton County at 2.2% and Albany County at 2.8%.

From January to February, most county unemployment rates followed their normal seasonal pattern and decreased. Unemployment rates often fall in February as seasonal job gains occur.
