Burlington senior Joe Bassett has been chosen to represent the Huskies, Wyoming and the USA in three upcoming football games.

On May 30, he will be playing in the Wyoming-Nebraska 6-Man All-Star Shootout in Chadron, Neb. On June 14th in Casper, he will be playing in the Shrine Bowl as the only 1A player chosen and July 1st he has been invited to play in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, Canada at the Can-Am Bowl.

Bassett received all-conference and all-state honors for the last three years and received conference co-defensive player of the year in 2023 and conference defensive player of the year in 2024.

“I am super blessed and honored to be recognized and to have the chance to play in those games,” said Bassett. “It has been a goal for me since I was a sixth grader and to be able to fulfill that has been amazing.”

Bassett has loved football since he was a boy. “Growing up my uncles always played football and through that I developed a passion for the challenge of improvement. It has always been my experience that desire and hard work will take you as far as you want to in football and that’s what I’ve always loved about it.”

In Nebraska, Bassett will be joined by his teammates Rykael Andrew, Jordan Broederlow and Brikton Wardell. “I’m so lucky for another chance to play one last game with my teammates; they all bring so many things to the table as far as talents and skill.”

Coach Trent Aagard has also been chosen to assist with the coaching staff at both the 6-Man Shootout and the Shrine Bowl. “The opportunity to have Trent as a coach has shaped my football career for the better,” said Bassett. “Trent has always pushed me to lead by example, push myself and bring others with me. It means a lot for me to have him as a coach for two more games.

“I just wanted to add how thankful I am for my family for supporting me every step of the way and for my teammates and coaches for the memories and the experiences that I got to have with them.”
