Bighorn Basin Gun Club Nears Completion of Phase 1 “Lighting the Way” Project New LED lights energized ahead of October 30 Monster Fun Shoot.

Phase 1 of the Bighorn Basin Gun Club’s “Lighting the Way” Youth Shooting Sports Lighting Project is nearing completion. As of October 21, the new LED sports lights on the first trap field are energized, with final adjustments remaining before the club’s upcoming fundraising event.

The project replaces aging trap-field lighting with modern LED fixtures so 4-H and high school shooters can use the range safely after dark. Phase 1 was made possible by local business sponsors who generously donated nearly $4,000, along with a $5,000 matching grant from the Wyoming Outdoorsmen. Surplus funds from Phase 1 will be carried over to support Phase 2. The second phase will light the second trap field.

The club will hold a Monster Fun Shoot on Friday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bighorn Basin Gun Club, 451 US Hwy 20 S, Basin. Proceeds from the event will benefit Phase 2 of the lighting project. The evening will feature trap shooting under black lights, with BBQ pork, coleslaw, and chili beans. Food will be available while it lasts — free with entry fee, or $10 per plate for adults and $5 for juniors. You may bring your own shells or shells will be available for sale. The entry fees are:  Adults: $40 and Juniors (16 and under): $20. For more information, see the Monster Fun Shoot event on Facebook.

The club extends its sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to Phase 1 Local businesses whose donations totaled nearly $4,000, Wyoming Outdoorsmen for their $5,000 grant, Lovell FFA for their work on the “Lighting the Way” Sponsor Appreciation Kiosk. It  will be dedicated at the conclusion of Phase 2. Also, Jeff Pillow and the Big Horn REA team, who volunteered their time to hang the fixtures, Shane Kannard and Mountain Electric for powering up the lights, Tim and Robin Allen for providing equipment and everyone else who has had a hand in this important project
