BMS takes second at recent A tournament
Middle School boys basketball wrapped up recently with the A tournament in Greybull. The Burlington Huskies finished the season with a 10-6 overall record. “Our season went pretty well. One thing I can say about this group, was that they really grew and improved over the season,” said Coach Corey Bullinger.
The Huskies headed into the tournament as the second seed, facing Shoshoni in the first game. Burlington dispatched the young Wrangler team 49-3. The win moved them forward in the bracket to face their district rival Rocky Mountain. Rocky took control of the game early on and led with a 10 point advantage at halftime. Both teams scored six points in the third quarter and that’s when the Huskies stepped up.
“This was probably our most exciting game of the season. We were down by 10 in the fourth quarter and the boys fought back.” Reegan Wood and Riggin Harris made 3’s, Colin Haslam had two big offensive rebounds and made the putbacks, Jaxon Buck and Will Preator also had timely offensive rebounds and putbacks that had the score tied at 33.
“We got a steal with 6 seconds left and Armando Padilla hit a buzzer beater to win it and send us to the championship for the third year in a row.”
The Huskies matched up with Thermopolis in the Championship game. The Bobcats proved to be too much for the Huskies and they lost 49-21, taking second place. “A month ago, I think you would have been hard pressed to find anyone who would have guessed that we’d take second, but the boys really locked in, focused on the basics and made it a great end to the season. This group of eighth graders is the first group I have coached clear through and I have really grown close with them and will miss them going forward,” said Bullinger.
