Rebecca Bullinger, Joey Chatwin, Jessie Michaels and Dusti Schatz were named valedictorians and Jordan Michaels was named the sole salutatorian for Burlington High School’s Class of 2024.
Bullinger is the daughter of Chris and Christine Bullinger. She has been involved in volleyball, book club, 4-H, Wyoming Advisory Panel for Students with Disabilities (WAPSD) and National Honor Society and she has been striving for valedictorian since she was young. “It was a value that my parents taught me. I didn’t strive for As for the title, but because I could get them.” Bullinger credits an important doctor from Denver as an impactful adult in her life. “They kept me believing in myself and helped me to continue to push forward. Each of my school teachers has been wonderful in working with me and understanding my needs.” Bullinger listed “gaining confidence in herself and her abilities" as one of her biggest accomplishments so far. She will be attending BYU Provo to pursue a degree in video game design.
Chatwin is the daughter of Melissa Leonhardt and Myron and Nichole Chatwin. She has been involved in volleyball, basketball, track and field, cross-country, 4-H, FFA, Student Council, National Honor Society and book club. She could not pick just one impactful teacher, saying, “All of them have affected me differently.” Chatwin believes that her biggest accomplishments so far are the scholarships that she has earned. “They reflect my character, grades and extra activities. I’m going to MSU-Billings and getting paid to go. This was a goal of mine that I’ve worked for since freshman year.” Chatwin will be attending MSU-Billings in elementary education and agricultural business.
Jessie Michaels is the daughter of Cathy and Larry Michaels. She has been working toward being the valedictorian all her high school years. Her most impactful teacher is Mrs. Tribby. “She has really helped me understand and helped me when needed.” Her favorite subject is English. Michaels has been involved in basketball, cross-country, track and field and volleyball. Her biggest accomplishments so far have been earning valedictorian, graduating high school and accomplishing her goals in sports. Michaels will be serving a mission to Ventura, California after she graduates.
Schatz is the daughter of Bevin and Wyatt Schatz. She has been involved in volleyball, cross-country and speech and debate. She has been working toward being a valedictorian since day one. “I had nearly straight A’s in middle school and set a goal to have straight A’s and be valedictorian in high school.” Her favorite subjects are science and history and her most impactful teacher was Mr. George. “Even while I was working to keep my 4.0, he never made it feel like school or grades were the end of the world or all that colleges were looking for. He gave me a lot of perspective on high school." Schatz plans on going on a road trip, trying a new job that is related to her planned major and hanging out with friends and family.
Jordan Michaels is the son of Cathy and Larry Michaels. He has been involved in football, basketball and track and math is his favorite subject. Mr. Olson has been his most impactful teacher. “I’ve spent the most time in his class and learned the most there.” Michaels plans on going on a mission and then attending BYU. His biggest accomplishments so far have been earning the State 2023 Offensive Player of the Year in football and being state champs in both football and track.
