Fifteen teams converged in Burlington on Friday for the Huskies home meet. Both the Lady Huskies and the Huskies walked away with first place overall. The Lady Huskies squeaked by Greybull with 1.5 points and the Huskies beat the Buffs by 50.5 points.

“We always enjoy hosting our own meet. It takes a lot of help and volunteers to make it run smoothly and we want to express our appreciation to everyone who helps make it happen,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “Although it’s still early in the season, it’s great to see most of the kids placing close to where they were at the end of last year.”

Bradford Davidson took first in the mile and qualified for state, with Connor Hoyt right behind in second place. Chase Bassett won the pole vault. Hyrum McNiven took second in both the long and triple jump, Taft Winters had the top throw in the disc and qualified for state, with Matt Tempany taking second place. Winters also qualified in the shot put and took second place with Tempany in third.

“Taft’s eyeing our 46-year-old school record in the shot. He’s only a junior and works really hard in practice; I have a feeling that record might be his soon,” Coach Olson said. “Trigdon continues to improve in the high jump, with a jump of 5-5. I like our jumpers, with Hyrum, McNiven, Pierce Peterson, Parker Cook and Brian O’Barr all with personal bests.”

On the girls’ side, Sarah McNiven placed first in the high jump, Sky Olson placed second in the pole vault, with Lauren Gotfredson placing third. Hailee Winterholler took second in the shot put and third in the discus.

“The girls had a great meet,” Coach Olson said. “Adison Haslam gets faster each week, running 29.9 in the 200. Hailee qualified for state in the disc and is only 6 inches from doing the same in the shot. Sky and Lauren continue to improve in pole vault and will probably be pre-qualified in the next couple of weeks.”

Burlington also held a Senior Night for their five seniors on Friday.

“Adelle Olson, Orabella Heaton, Hailee Winterholler and Paul McNiven have been a huge part of this team for so many years. And although Kourtnee Roper has only been on the team for a couple of weeks, she has already had a positive influence on the team. We’ll enjoy watching them during these next couple of months as they finish their High School track experience,” said Coach Olson.

Burlington will head to Worland to compete in the D&D Invitational on Thursday. Field events will start at 1:30 p.m. and running events at 3:00 p.m. with a rolling schedule.
