Burlington Middle finishes season

Burlington’s Middle School track has wrapped up a successful 2025 season. 

The eighth grade girls won their conference, beating out Thermopolis by five points. The seventh grade girls also won, beating out Thermopolis by four points and the sixth grade girls got second, just behind Rocky by a point and a half.  

The eighth grade boys took second behind Greybull, the seventh grade boys took second behind Rocky and the sixth grade boys tied for fourth. 

“We had a fantastic group of athletes this year,” said Coach Stephanie Tolman. “They did such a great job at conference; we had a lot of personal bests down in Thermopolis and throughout the year. They worked hard during the season and almost all of them were able to see that hard work pay off.” 

Nine school records were broken and some of those were broken multiple times this season.  

“Eighth grader Kellen Winters broke his own 800 meter and 1600 meter by quite a bit and decided this year that he wanted to try his hand at the sprint races, where he broke the 200 meter and 400 meter records which were set by Ryan Cauffman back in 1998. 

“Another eighth grader, Kelli McNiven, broke our 800 meter and 1600 meter records which just happened to be held by our assistant coach Maren Gotfredson (Winters) and set in 1994. Seventh graders Stella Davidson and Lucy McNiven and sixth grader Tilly Neves broke Stella’s pole vault record from last year, trading off who broke it each meet, but Tilly ended up with the final vault and the record. 

“Eighth grader Chase Bassett broke Branden Christianson’s pole vault record from 2002 and eighth grader Hyrum McNiven broke Sam Davidson’s triple jump record from 2006. At Best of the Best, our eighth grade boys  decided they wanted to go after our relay records and broke the 4X100 and the sprint medley relay. Chase Allen, Pierce Peterson, Chase B. and Kellen broke the 1998 4X100 record and Hyrum, Asher Loveland, Chase B. and Kellen broke the sprint medley record from 2002.” 

Twenty-five athletes qualified for Best of the Best in Lander. 

“This is the largest group I’ve seen in my time working with the middle school track program and we had quite a few up on the podium in their different events, which was fun to see,” said Tolman. “We have a lot of talent and a lot of grit and determination in these athletes. We will really miss our eighth graders; they are a talented group and we are excited to see what they can continue to do in high school. We’re also very excited about our athletes coming up and it will be fun to see what we can do in the years ahead.”
