Burlington Middle School volleyball team ends on a high note
Burlington Middle School’s volleyball teams have wrapped up their season and the Lady Huskies ended with more wins than losses at all levels.
“All of our teams ended with a winning record, with the B team remaining undefeated. Our A team ultimately came up short in the championship game, losing in three sets to Shoshoni,” said Coach Lisa Winters. “I was proud of all our athletes. They showed a lot of grit and improved all season long. I saw some of our best moments during our games at the tournament.”
They started the season with the goals of being positive, hustling and winning their tournament. Winters credits much of their success to their time spent in the off season. “The girls worked hard putting in a lot of time during the summer to improve their skills to be ready for the season this year. I was impressed by the dedication to do the extra on their own time. When the season started, we were well prepared and the girls were willing to fill whatever role on the team they needed to.”
Coach Winters was joined on the coaching staff by Stephanie Winters and Jenna Neves and they coached four sixth graders, eight seventh graders and 10 eight graders.
Summing up the year, Winters said, “We will miss our eighth graders next year. Brooklyn Winters could always be counted on for consistent serves and digs. Ava Wennberg did a great job of supporting all her teammates and helped us out by playing two different positions this year. Chloe Cauffman really improved in her passing; I felt confident with her in the back row. Stella Davidson had some awesome blocks and hits from the middle. Addison Brunko did a great job with blocking and setting when our setter had to dig. Coley Ellison was another really consistent player; she knew every position and was ready to go in wherever the team needed her. Emma McNiven worked hard on getting her serve consistent all year, and was one of our most consistent servers during the tournament. Lucy McNiven had some awesome kills as an outside hitter. Shantelle Wright did well as a middle hitter and also has a great serve. Cambria Wicke was one of our best passers; she also did well hitting from the outside.
“While all these girls had great volleyball skills, even more important was their attitude and how they came together to support each other and put the team above themselves. It was a very positive year, and I’m so proud of all that we accomplished!”
