Burlington hosted its track meet on Friday and with 13 teams in attendance, it was a good day for the Huskies. “We loved the big turnout of teams and athletes,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “It’s always fun for our kids to perform in front of our hometown. We saw a lot of personal bests and state pre-qualifiers.”

On the boys’ side, Weston Gotfredson qualified in the high jump and pole vault. Colt Haslam and Bruce McNiven also qualified in the high jump. Kyler Winters won the pole vault with a 14-foot clearance. “He’s closing in on a 23-year-old school record,” said Olson. “Paul McNiven had a great day, qualifying in the 100 hurdles and the 800 meter and our distance runners ran well with Howard McNiven qualifying in the mile and Connor Hoyt in the two-mile.”

There was also success on the girl’s side. “Every jump surpassed what had been done the week before,” said Olson. “Madison Aagard improved in both her shot and discus throws. Adelle Olson improved in both her hurdle races and Orabella Heaton took 20 seconds off of her mile.

“It’s great to be able to show how hard work pays off in track. The kids that are working hard in practice, perfecting their technique and getting their workouts done, are beginning to see their marks improve every week. It’s one thing I love about track season; it follows the Law of the Harvest: ‘You reap what you sow’,” said Olson.

The Huskies are on spring break but some team members will attend the Bill Gerrard Memorial Invite Saturday in Greybull with both field events and running events starting at 10 a.m.
