Burlington, Riverside athletes cap pre-Christmas portion of schedule
With this issue being printed on Monday morning, the Basin Republican Rustler staff could not produce stories on the high school teams’ performances last weekend. Additional details will appear in the Jan. 2 issue, but here were some of the highlights:
Basketball
The Burlington Huskies and Riverside Rebels spent Friday and Saturday in Shoshoni, competing in the Wrangler Invitational.
Riverside went 2-1 and Burlington 1-1 on the girls’ side. The Lady Rebels clipped Saratoga 35-33 and Farson-Eden 39-24 before stumbling in a matchup with Shoshoni, 47-42. The Lady Huskies also knocked off Farson Eden, 40-29, but took one on the chin against Cokeville, 56-49, in a matchup of ranked teams.
In boys action, Burlington defeated the Riverton sophomores 57-29 but lost to Cokeville 58-36. Riverside went 0-3, losing to Saratoga 65-36; the Riverton sophomores 55-36 and Shoshoni 60-25.
Wrestling
Greybull-Riverside enjoyed a successful weekend at the Battle in the Big Horns, winning the Bronze bracket and reaping several individual titles.
The grapplers lost all three of their Pool C duals, falling by scores of 39-30 to Glenrock, 42-24 to Cody and 36-24 to Buffalo. But they regrouped in the Bronze bracket, slipping by Wheatland 34-30 and Newcastle 30-29 while losing to Jackson 42-24
Gabby Dowling, Loomis Alexander and Curtis Strohschein reigned in their respective weight classes while Michael Bassett and Elizabeth Holloway each placed second in the Best of the Best competition which capped off the tournament.
On the JV side, Ben Mendenhall placed second and Carter Peasley fifth.
