Caring for Caregivers retreat planned for March 29 in Basin

The University of Wyoming Extension is planning a free Caring for Caregivers Retreat organized by Melissa Cook, community vitality and health educator.

The retreat is March 29 at the Basin First Baptist Church from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Registration is open, but space is limited. Sign up soon or share this opportunity with caregivers who could benefit.

The community has come together to offer caregivers a chance to refresh, learn, and connect. The goal is to provide valuable information while giving caregivers a well-deserved break to focus on their well-being.

A lineup of expert guest speakers will address a variety of topics, from legal considerations to mental wellness and creative expression:

Motivational Speaker: Sabine Schenck, program director of the Wyoming Center on Aging in Laramie

Legal Peace of Mind: Michelle Burns, attorney at Burns Law Office in Greybull

Navigating Emotional Well-Being: Dr. Ralph Louis, a psychologist at Oxbow in Basin

Caregiver Support Group Options: Pat Tanner, a retired social worker from Basin

Senior Center Resources: Cynthia Johnson, executive director of South Big Horn Senior Center in Greybull

Caregivers will gain practical knowledge and new skills.

They will take a break and recharge by choosing from these creative and wellness activities:

Cooking a Diabetes-Friendly Meal: Tenika Eardley, dietitian at Big Horn Nutrition in Greybull

Sip N Paint: Jessica Reesy, artist at Sharp’s Peak Sip N Paint in Cody

The Importance of Self-Care with Meditation and Sound Bath: Suzi Shelhamer, wellness specialist at Serenity Wellness Retreat in Basin

The event is being made possible through the support of Big Horn REA, Security State Bank, First Baptist Church of Basin, and the Wyoming Center on Aging. Other sponsors include Lynn’s Market, Queen Bee, Basin Pharmacy, and the Crazy Woman Territory.
