Carla Rae Neves Loveland
December 24, 1923 - February 13, 2024
Carla Rae Neves Loveland, a long-time resident of Burlington, Wyo., passed away Feb. 13, 2024. She was 100 years old.
Carla was born in Byron, Wyo., on Dec. 24, 1923. Although premature, she came with long black hair and wide eyes.
Carla loved to learn and excelled in all her studies in Burlington’s schools and at the University of Wyoming. She was passionate about dance, music, literature, homemaking, history, drama, rhetoric, journalism, and so much more. She played first-clarinet in the award-winning Burlington High School band and found time to be a cheerleader and a prom queen. She was a lifelong student until well into her 100th year.
She married John “Jack” Taylor Loveland on her birthday, Dec. 24, 1942, in the chapel at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, just over a year after the United States declared war on Japan and Germany. Jack joined the Army immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor and was training in Leavenworth. The marriage was later sealed in the LDS temple in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Carla’s greatest goal and joy in life was being a mom and grandmom. She has nine children, and right at 200 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Carla’s life was centered-on and defined by her family and her faith. Carla was an ardent and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in a wide variety of roles including stake and ward Relief Society, Primary, and every music role. She and her husband Jack served a mission for the church in South Dakota.
Carla is the author of the regional history Sagebrush and Roses, a history of Otto and Burlington, Wyoming. The book was the recipient of a Wyoming State Historical Society Lola Homsher Grant and has been cited in several academic publications.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 10 a.m. in the Burlington LDS Church, 114 Cedar Ave. A viewing will precede the service at 9 a.m. Interment will be at the Burlington Cemetery.
