Congrats to Rebels, but is cannon really necessary?
Dear editor:
First of all, I want to congratulate the Riverside Rebels on their win against Meeteetse Friday night. However, I have a huge problem with the cannon being set off for each touchdown and three times plus fireworks at the end of the game.
We live above the football field and had a bad thing happen. My little dog was very scared with the cannon noise. Right at end of the game, she needed to go out to do her nightly “business.” Just after she went out, three cannons exploded and then fireworks went off. It terrified her so badly that she ran off!!
We went right out to search for her to no avail. I walked the neighborhood for 2 1/2 hours, plus we drove all over looking and calling for her. NOTHING! We also had friends out looking.
I was finally exhausted, both physically and emotionally, so I came home and was sitting on my couch with all my doors open and praise the Lord, she found her way back home at 1 a.m. She was still very scared, shaking and full of weeds and trash, and it took me a while to get her settled down.
My little Lucy is an important part of our family (as I’m sure others’ pets are to them). The question is this: Has there been any thought to the noise terrifying animals? And what about
elderly people and people who suffer from PTSD?
I know the team, coaches and fans were ecstatic over the win, but I implore you to reconsider shooting the cannons off at the game on Friday and consider waiting until next year when the games will be at the new field out of the residential area? I
appreciated Matt Jensen reaching out and speaking with me about this
issue.
Thank you.
