In-custody death reported at BHC Dentention Center

Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office reported the death of an inmate at Big Horn County Detention Center in a press release on Tuesday, June 23. 

The release states that Tuesday at around 9:30 a.m., BHCSO received an Emergency Medical Services Request at the detention center regarding an inmate who was not breathing. On-duty detention staff and Big Horn County deputies immediately initiated life-saving measures; paramedics from Cody Regional Health were dispatched and arrived on-scene in minutes. 

“Despite continuous resuscitation efforts by deputies and EMS personnel for approximately 55 minutes, the individual could not be revived,” the release reads. 

Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation has been asked to conduct an independent investigation into the in-custody death per BHCSO policy. 

“No further information will be released at this time, as this remains an active and ongoing investigation,” Interim Sheriff Jason Beal said in the release. “The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to Cody Regional health EMS and the Wyoming DCI for their rapid response and assistance during this difficult situation.”
