Douglas Albert Miller

April 4, 1939 - April 26, 2018Funeral services for Douglas Albert Miller will be held Friday, May 4, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Atwood Family Chapel in Greybull, Wyo. Burial will full military honors will follow at Mount View Cemetery in Basin.Douglas Albert Miller was born in Lisbon, Iowa on April 4, 1939 to Karl and Ethel Anna Powell Miller. Around 1949, Doug came to Basin, Wyo., to live with Jay Laverne North (Northie). During his early years, he and his brother, Winston, learned and worked alongside Northie. Here he made his life where they broke new ground that became the place that they would raise Black Angus cattle, Rambouillet sheep, pigs, and other livestock. This place would be his home for the rest of his living days.Doug received his education and diploma at Basin High School, where he was an active member of the FFA and served as an officer. In 1963, he was drafted in to the United States Army. During his enlistment, he was stationed in Germany and visited many places in Europe. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to the family farm/ranch.In January of 1965, he married Bonnie Lee Good and they made their home on the farm along the Greybull River. After their union, they were blessed with three children: son, Jay Laverne in 1965, son, Douglas Albert II in 1967, and their daughter, Honey Ann in 1975.During those years, Doug and his family continued to raise bountiful crops that included sugar beets, barley, alfalfa, potatoes and other crops. For several years, they were recognized by Great Western Sugar as one of the top 10 growers.In his later years, he started to pass on the responsibilities of the farm to his children. This allowed him time to travel around the Big Horn Basin and over the Big Horns in his 1965 Ford Custom 500 to visit with the many friends that he had acquired over the years.Doug passed away peacefully at his home on April 26, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Northie, Karl and Ethel and his wife, Bonnie. He is survived by his sons, Jay (Tammy) and Doug, and daughter, Honey Ann that blessed him with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Arrangements have been entrusted to Atwood Family Funeral Directors.(PAID OBITUARY)
