Doyle Yonts

Doyle Roger Yonts departed this world April 29, 2025, at the age of 85 in Durham, N.C., where he resided with his daughter and her family.

Doyle was predeceased by his father, Darrell Leon Yonts; his mother, Dorothy Tvedtnes Yonts; his brother, Pat Fulton; and his wife, Senta Henrietta (Schredl) Yonts.

He is survived by his son, Daniel Yonts (Tisa); his daughter, Tara Tarlton (Hank); his sister, Doreen Hanich; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born on a farm in Garland, Wyo., to Darrell and Dorothy Yonts. His grandfather Tvedtnes had a positive impact on his life. Doyle was multi-talented: a cabinet maker, carpenter, technical illustrator and overall handyman to name a few. He loved animals and enjoyed music.

He joined the U.S. Navy and traveled the Pacific as a radioman on the USS Toledo Heavy Cruiser from the coast of Russia to Australia. He worked as a switchman for the Union Pacific Railroad. He married in Denver, Colo., raised a family in San Francisco, Calif., then returned to Wyoming and settled in Basin, Wyo., working as a county assessor.

He was active in Zion Lutheran Church in San Francisco, where he built the casework for their pipe organ and sang in the choir, and Grace Southern Baptist Church in Greybull, Wyo., where he made a decision to be intentional about following Jesus. Toward the end, he was blessed by the ministry of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Chapel Hill, N.C.

After he retired, he moved to Durham, N.C., to be near his daughter’s family. He lived at Durham Regent Retirement Community for several years, then moved in with his daughter’s family in 2024.

Interment will be at the San Francisco Columbarium and Funeral Home in June. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Doyle Yonts Memorial Fund, proceeds designated toward the Holy Trinity Anglican Church building campaign (his wish).
