Gary Brunko

Bio 

Gary Brunko was raised on a farm in Iowa. Following graduation from High School he joined the US Navy, served for 6 years and was trained as a Nuclear Power Plant operator on a fast attack submarine. My wife, Cathy, and I lived in Burlington for 12 years and then my job asked us to move to Utah. We lived there for 18 years and moved back to Burlington 10 years ago as part of my retirement. I am registered as a Republican and feel I am conservative.

What do you believe are the top issues facing your town?

 I believe the citizens of Burlington are most concerned with dusty roads, weeds on vacant lots, dogs in the town and the availability of irrigation water for our gardens, trees and lawns. Burlington has experienced growth over the last 10 years, the town’s officials must ensure the town has the infrastructure to meets the needs of the citizens. I feel the priorities for the town are the completion of the expansion of the sewer lagoon and trying to find additional water to maintain the beauty of Burlington. 

What is your stance on government transparency, including public notices, open meetings, public records, and communication with the press?

As mayor I intend for our town meetings to be open to all citizens and the press, if they are so inclined to attend. Anyone desiring to speak during our town meetings will be given the opportunity to do so. Public notices and the minutes of the town meetings will be posted as necessary.
