Fireworks business booms

By Tammy Keele

The B&D Fireworks stand opened their business on South Fourth Street for the first time in Basin last month.

New to the area but not new to fireworks, Brice and Dana George decided they would continue in Basin what would be their fifth season in the fireworks business. Prior to relocating their 11-member blended family to Lilac City to take on teaching positions, the Georges operated their stand in the Buffalo and Kaycee areas.

To the delight of B&D Fireworks and their patrons, the Basin Town Council approved allowing residents to discharge pyrotechnics within the city limits July 4. The move to lift what had been several years of firework restrictions may have had a positive impact on Basin’s new business. “We were way busier than I thought we would be and it turned out real great,” said a thankful Mr. George.

George went on to describe the excitement of community members when they presented to his stand. Not only were they excited to be able to purchase his wares, but they were also excited to be allowed to enjoy them in town. The stand owner is already looking forward and hopeful for next season.

“We did better than expected and look forward to doing it again next year,” he said.
