St. Andrews Episcopal Church received a grant to help those dealing with food insecurity. The grant was from the Foundation of the Episcopal Dioceses of Wyoming. Some of the grant funds goes toward a free monthly lunch that is open to the public. The lunch is the third Thursday of the month at 12:30 p.m. at the church in Basin.

Volunteer Cindy Schlattmann explained that the Dioceses was given a large endowment a few years back. That money was invested and the interest is used to fund projects such a food insecurity.

In addition to the monthly lunch, St. Andrews gave money to the Hopes for Totes program, which provides weekend food for students.

The largest share of the funds went to gift certificates to Basin’s Market. Schlattmann said 30 certificates were given to individuals and families who really needed help purchasing food. She added increasing food prices add to the challenge of food insecurity.

After the monthly lunch, many attendees stay to work on crafts they have brought, making it a good time of fellowship.
