Greybull man gets 3-5 years for selling fentanyl-laced counterfeit Oxycodone
A Greybull man has been sentenced to three to five years in prison after pleading no contest to five drug charges that stemmed from an investigation into the Jan. 2, 2022, overdose of a 25-year-old Cody man.
Anthony Fuentes, 35, entered the no contest pleas to two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (fentanyl), two felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance (fentanyl) and a high misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance during his sentencing hearing Dec. 19 in the Fifth Judicial District Court of Big Horn County.
Prosecutors alleged that Fuentes sold two counterfeit Oxycodone pills that were laced with fentanyl to the Cody man. The victim was identified only as “J.J.” in court documents, but in Greybull, those initials are understood to be a reference to Jordan Jackson.
In the eyes of the court, a no contest plea, which is what Fuentes entered, is treated the same as a guilty plea.
Each of the four felony counts carried the potential of up to 20 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to $25,000. The misdemeanor is punishable by up to a year in the county jail and fine of up to $1,000. If ordered to serve them consecutively, he could have faced up to 81 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $101,000.
According to Big Horn County Attorney Marcia Bean, the court sentenced Fuentes to three to five-years in the Wyoming State Penitentiary on counts one and two, which are felonies. He was also sentenced to an underlying eight- to 10-year sentence on counts three and four, although those were suspended in favor of three years of supervised probation.
For the misdemeanor, Fuentes was sentenced to 351 days in jail, with credit given in that same number of days for time served.
The court did not impose any fines.
While the sentencing brought an end to his prosecution in Big Horn County, Fuentes has since been brought up on charges in neighboring Park County. A felony information was filed on Dec. 19, charging Fuentes with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of Jackson.
Involuntary manslaughter is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
