Greybull woman lost in car accident

Fundraisers in place for her young daughter

Alicia Garay, 24, of Greybull died in a single vehicle crash near mile marker 199 on Highway 20 South between Basin and Greybull Saturday, July 18. 

Although Wyoming Highway Patrol was unable to confirm the identities of those involved at the time of publication due to the ongoing investigation, a report matching the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office account of the incident relayed that law enforcement was informed of the crash around 6:20 p.m. Saturday. 

In a statement to the Standard, WHP reported that troopers arrived on scene to find that a Cadillac Escalade travelling northbound at what appeared to be a high rate of speed seemed to have lost control before tripping and rolling multiple times. Both occupants of the vehicle were fully ejected; the driver died on scene and a juvenile was life flighted to Denver, Colo. 

In a social media update, Alicia Garay’s sister, Lexi Garay Swiftney, shared that Alicia’s daughter, Saira, was taken to the children’s hospital in Denver following the accident. She has been treated for a fractured femur, upper arm fracture, liver laceration and bruised lungs. 

“Saira is doing great! She’s talking, laughing, playing and continuing to make amazing progress,” Garay Swiftney wrote. 

Alicia Garay would have turned 25 years old July 22. She graduated from Riverside High School in Basin in 2020, cosmetology school in 2025 and barber school in June 2026. She was working as a cosmetologist at Essence of Beauty in Greybull with her mother Stephanie Garay. 

“There are no words to describe how much I will miss you, sister,” Garay Swiftney wrote. “I will love you forever. We promise to make sure Saira always knows who her mama was through the countless memories, stories and love you gave us all.”

A myriad of fundraisers are in the works to support Saira and the Garay family with unexpected expenses. A GoFundMe, organized by Alicia Garay’s friend Kelby Davila, is available online at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-alicia-garays-family-saira. Venmo donations can be made to Stephanie Garay’s account @Stephanie-Garay-20. An account titled “Garay Family Donation” is available at any Security State Bank location. Memorial donations to assist with funeral expenses can be made payable to Bryant Funeral Home and mailed to P.O. Box 524, Worland, WY 82401. 

“We are also planning to organize a softball tournament and lunch in the near future,” Davila said. “I am also in talks with an individual trying to set up another fundraiser, dinner and silent auction in about a month or so.”

A viewing will be held at Herb Asp Community Center, 527 First Avenue South, in Greybull from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25. A Mass will immediately follow from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by burial at the Greybull Cemetery. Everyone is invited, the family requests those attending services wear red, white, green, or colors representing Alicia Garay’s American and Mexican roots. Family and friends are invited back to the community hall after the burial for a luncheon and celebration of life.
