Herbert Ordell Mobley Jr.

Sept. 21, 1932 - Oct. 8, 2023
Herbert Ordell Mobley Jr., 91, passed peacefully in the morning of Oct. 8, 2023, in Billings, Mont., surrounded by his wife Beth, son Kyle, daughter Tracy and other loving family members.
Herb was born on Sept. 21, 1932, to Herb Sr. and Marie Roberts Mobley. He was joined by brother John four years later. Herb grew up near Shell, Wyo., and he lived in the beauty and shadows of the Big Horn Mountains. Herb spent his youth working hard on his parents’ ranch, but loved the many hours spent in those mountains, trailing cattle, hunting, skiing the slopes of Antelope Butte and helping to build summer cabins and cow camps.
Herb attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie and, after graduation, he went back to ranch with his parents, first in Wyoming and later moving to the ranch on Tongue River near Ashland. Herb bought the ranch and began Mobley Ranch after marrying Bunny Riemann in 1969 and adopting her children, Kyle and Tracy. Herb and Bunny sold the ranch in 1994 and moved to several places before settling in Billings. Herb and Bunny divorced in 2006.
Herb was a tough negotiator, an avid bridge player and an amazing, accomplished pianist. He had a strong work ethic and worked long and hard hours to make his business successful, but he also enjoyed being active in the community, serving for years as the president of Tongue River Water Users Association and as a school board member in Ashland. Herb loved to hunt and fish, and took pride in the fact that he taught his children and grandchildren to enjoy those sports as much as he did.
Herb married Beth McNeill on June 5, 2013, in Arizona. Herb and Beth liked to travel and made homes in both Montana and Georgia. Herb also enjoyed spending time with Beth’s children, Anthony and Heather McNeill and Cindy Kart.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herb Sr. and Marie Mobley; brother John Mobley; and nephew Paul Mobley. He is survived by wife Beth Mobley; son Kyle Mobley (Tamara); daughter Tracy Charles (LeRoy); and grandchildren ReAnn Hudson (Tripp), Jenna Moseman (Brendan), Bryson Mobley, Blake Mobley, Brett Charles (Timberlee) and Kaleigh Premo (Dustin); and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in Mountview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Herb’s name can be made to Elks Lodge #1431, 1622 Greybull Ave., Greybull WY 82426-2041.
