Howard Rufe Gazaway

Howard Rufe Gazaway, 86, was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Riverton, Wyo., the son of Rufe I. and Hattie Mary-Ann (Price) Gazaway. He passed in the hospital at Basin, Wyo.

He was married to Mary Etta (Rosenbaum) Gazaway, Aug. 7, 1968, in Casper, Wyo.

Howard joined the Wyoming National Guard with his parents’ permission in 1951 and then the U.S. Navy in 1954, serving on the USS Badoeng Strait (CVE-116). In 1955 they deployed to the South Pacific to partic ipate in the testing of the hydrogen bombs at Eniwetok Atoll in Operation Red- wing. He finished his last two years at Alemeda Naval Air Station as a small arms instructor. Occupations after service include oilfield and construction equipment operator, truck driver and owner of a jewelry repair business. He was a member of Teamsters Local 166.

He was a member of Cloud Peak Bible Church in Manderson.

He is survived by his daughter Laurie Ann Dudley of Arizona, sons and their wives, Allen Dale Brewer (Kasandra) of Buffalo, Wyo., David Wayne Brewer (Lia) of Kemmerer, Wyo., Kenneth R. (Bob) Brewer (Rox Anne) of Basin, Wyo., Charlies Lynn Brewer (Cecile) of Basin, Wyo., and 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife Mary Etta; son Barry Dale Gazaway; parents Rufe and Hattie; infant brother Robert Darrell;

sister Donna May Howard, and son-in-law Kirk Dudley.

A burial service will be held at Mount View Cemetery in Basin sometime in the spring or summer with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pastor Building Fund of the Cloud Peak Bible Church.
