FROM THE HUDDLE: Rebels Show Grit in Non-Conference Nail-Biter

By:
Coach Matthew Jensen

We suffered a tough loss last Saturday against a very explosive Casper Christian squad, falling just short in a 29-26 battle. We held the lead going into the fourth quarter, but Casper Christian’s passing attack proved potent late in the game, scoring twice in the final frame to pull ahead.

While the outcome stings, our coaching staff and players left the field with plenty of positives to build on. Offensively, we maintained a balanced, effective rhythm, and our defense stepped up to force multiple turnovers. Ultimately, a few lapses and costly mistakes decided the game, as is typical in high-stakes football.

A competitive non-conference matchup like this serves a valuable purpose. It highlights exactly where we need to sharpen our focus as a coaching staff to ensure our athletes are fully prepared for the road ahead. I couldn’t be prouder of our boys for the guts and determination they displayed from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

Offensive Leaders: Corbyn Godfrey had a great day, tallying 51 rushing yards and 79 receiving yards while accounting for all four of our team’s touchdowns. Jaxson Womack provided a powerful ground attack alongside him, grinding out 85 rushing yards.

Defensive Leaders: Gavyn Cervantes was everywhere on the field, posting 11 tackles, a pass breakup, a fumble recovery, and an interception. Zack Kuntz was equally relentless, racking up 8 tackles (two for loss), a sack, and forcing two fumbles.

Looking Ahead

Next week brings our biggest challenge yet as we open conference play against the #1 ranked team in 6-Man football, the Burlington Huskies. They enter the contest riding high off an impressive 46-18 victory over the defending state champions, Little Snake River.

We will have to clean up our execution, fix the small errors, and bring maximum intensity from the first snap. Opening conference play against the top team in the state is a prime opportunity to show who we are and sets the ultimate benchmark for our season moving forward.

We need our faithful fans right there with us. We hope to see red and black packing the sidelines in Burlington next Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM.

Go Rebels!
