Huskies fall to Rocky Mountain
The Burlington Huskies traveled to Cowley Tuesday, Dec. 17 to play their cross-district rival and lost to Rocky Mountain, 49-43.
“It was a tough loss in the north end of the district,” said Coach Kirby Winland. “Coming off a ‘short week’ (one day) of practice, we played an opponent that out executed us.”
The Huskies stayed within two points in the first quarter, thanks to two 3s by Jordan Casey and a couple rebound put-backs by Weston Gotfredson and Rykael Andrew but the Grizzlies outscored the Huskies 16-8 in the second quarter.
Burlington outscored Rocky in the last two quarters but couldn’t make up the full deficit.
“At one point during the game, we were down double digits and it could have turned ugly, but credit where credit is due, our boys’ character kept us in the game,” said Winland.
Bitner Philpott led the team with 10 points and four rebounds. Gotfredson had eight points, four rebounds and four assists.
“We aren’t executing very well right now, which is leading to lots of turnovers and forced looks,” said Winland.
Results from the Huskies games this past weekend were unavailable due to early holiday deadlines and will be presented in the Jan. 2, 2025, issue.
