Huskies football with another win on the road

The Burlington football team saw success in Ten Sleep on Saturday, defeating the Pioneers 50-0. “Ten Sleep has come a long way over the past few years,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “Their new field is in a beautiful location, the town and team are excited about football, and they play with a lot of passion. They have better days ahead.” 

The Huskies started out slow with a few dropped passes. Penalties that set the team back a little but some key plays had them back on course. Offensively, the Huskies had 410 yards, with 4 touchdowns from Kole Walker, 2 from Parker Cook and 1 more from Carsten Schlenker. “We did what we needed to do to be successful. Kole had some big runs that really set the tone for us. Him, Parker and Carsten did a good job of carrying the ball for us. Kole, Asher (Loveland), Chase Bassett and Carsten all made some good timely throws. Carsten, Chase B. Parker and Cole Gotfredson did a good job running routes and getting open. Overall, I thought once we settled in, we were able to move the ball in multiple ways. We still have some things to clean up, but we are getting there.” 

Defensively, the Huskies were missing a few of their big players but had 33 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 pass breakups and 4 interceptions. “We were without Matt (Tempany), Taft (Winters) and Trig (Aagard). In their absence, Teddy (Ball) and Brad (Davidson) saw a real uptick in reps. I thought they did well for themselves, especially on the defensive side of the ball. 

We were able to get 4 turnovers this game (2 interceptions from Carsten and 1 each from Chase B and Kole). One of those came with no time left in the first half and Chase had the presence of mind to pitch it back to Kole as he was being tackled.That resulted in an unexpected TD going into halftime. Chase has intercepted in that situation 2 times this season both resulting in points for us. I thought we were able to get good pressure up front from James (McNiven), Teddy, Parker and Brad. The way they are stepping up is something that will help us as the season progresses. We had great effort and some special plays that happened Saturday. It is something we can continue to build on as our season continues.” said Aagard. 

Burlington had a JV game on Monday in Rocky and the Varsity will travel to Chester, Montana to take on the Chester-Joplin-Inverness Hawks, the defending Montana Class C 6-man champions on Friday, with a kick off of 7:00 p.m.

RUSHING – Burlington 28-230 (Parker Cook, 3-82 with 1 touchdown; Kole Walker 7-75 and 3 TDs). PASSING – Burlington 11-of-15 for 180 yards (Walker, 7-of-10 for 119 yards and 1 TD). RECEIVING – Carson Schlenker, 3 catches for 41 yards and 1 TD). 

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS – Teddy Ball and Carsten Schlenker both led the Huskies with 18 points (Ball, 6 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack; Schlenker, 4 solo tackles and 2 interceptions). Followed by Walker (3 solo tackles, 2 assisted tackles, 2 pass breakups and 1 interception).
