It was a successful weekend for the Huskies as they beat Dubois and Ten Sleep, moving them into second place in the conference with a 2-1 conference record.
Burlington headed to Dubois on Friday and won 58-55. “It was a rough and tough game and our boys did a good job of handling the physicality and keeping control of the game for almost every minute of the game,” said Coach Kirby Winland. “In the closing minutes, we were able to execute a stall offense much, much better than the weekend prior. Which was really good for us confidence wise, as both coaches and players. We are starting to prove we can win close games.”
Rykael Andrew had 12 points and three steals, Jordan Michaels also had 12 points and Joe Bassett contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.
In Ten Sleep on Saturday, the Huskies jumped out to a quick lead that they held for the rest of the game, extending the lead in the third quarter by more than 20 points. “This provided a perfect opportunity to allow everyone on our team to get some good minutes. As a coach one of the most nerve racking times is when you do get a big lead,” said Winland. “There are so many things that can cause a team to lose a lead like that, whether it’s relaxing and losing your edge, to skill differences between your bench and the starters. But again, our players were able to hold strong and maintain a comfortable lead. Ten Sleep kept playing really hard, which was great for our non-starters to get to play against. Credit given to their Coach Chad Fox, as throughout the game they continued to make adjustments and tried some tricky sets, trying to get into the middle of the floor, but our boys responded well.”
Ten Huskies contributed to the final score of 67-43. Weston Gotfredson had a big game with 18 points and eight rebounds and Casey McNiven contributed 11 points and four steals.
The Huskies will have a slow week with only one freshman game on Tuesday and Riverside on Friday in Burlington, with the JV game at 4 and the varsity tip off at 7 p.m.
