The Burlington Huskies graduated eight seniors last year including their whole starting roster but will be bringing back varsity players Casey McNiven, Jordan Michaels, Joe Bassett and Rykael Andrew.
“We will have five seniors on the team,” said Coach Kirby Winland. “Mickey Maroni as our faithful manager, McNiven, Michaels, Toby McNulty and Joseph Stanworth. With such a large core graduating last year, this year we will need to learn quickly what this group is capable of doing. The one thing about coaching in Burlington is you never have to ask the kids to hustle or play hard, they always do that and because of that they will make up for lost time quickly. We also have 10 freshmen out that are hungry for some high school competition.”
Winland, the new head coach, was an assistant coach last year and previously coached middle school football in Rocky Mountain.   He will be assisted on the Burlington bench by Dale Cook and Matt McNiven.
“Because of my lack of coaching experience, my strategy was to surround myself with enough wisdom and support that as a team, we would avoid any big mistakes.”
“As far as expectations for the season, I like our chances for the repeat. That won’t be without challenge, but it’s definitely possible,” said Winland.
The Huskies will hit the road this weekend to participate in the Carbon County Classic Tournament in Saratoga and Encampment.
