Burlington hosted Farson-Eden on Friday in week one of the state football playoffs. The Huskies were firing on all cylinders and overcame Farson, 92-16. “I thought our guys came out with good focus,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “They played hard throughout. Farson was a young team and a little shorthanded. We’ve had some real battles with them over the years, so it’s good to come away with a win.”

Offensively, the Huskies had a very well-rounded game with 174 rushing yards, 305  passing  yards and 14 yards from special teams. Brikton Wardell led the team in scoring with three touchdowns and 6 extra-point kicks. Rykael Andrew and William Aagard added two touchdowns apiece and Jordan Casey, Weston Gotfredson, Jordan Broederlow, Chute Cauffman, Matt Tempany and Joe Bassett all made it across the goal line an additional time. “Brody (J. Broederlow) had maybe his best game,” said Aagard. “He has continued to get more confident as the season progresses. Farson really focused on our backfield which left some opportunity for our receivers. Brikton, William, Rykael and Weston all made some big plays in the pass game. Brody, Jordan C. Kyler Winters and Brikton all had some big runs. I think at times, Joe gets too much attention from defenses which really opens up some other guys. I think our balance and number of guys who can contribute makes us successful.”

Defensively, the Huskies had every member of the team getting in on at least one tackle, with 25 overall team solo tackles, 35 assisted tackles, 13 tackles for loss, two sacks, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and an interception. “We played aggressively. Rushers, Birkton, Will and Taft did a good job of not letting Farson get comfortable,” said Aagard. “Joe, Kyler, Weston and Rykael did a great job in the middle, bringing pressure and not letting them get much going. The Jordans kept them from getting much going through the air. I thought the physicality and intensity we played with was good. It has been rewarding to watch these guys develop and improve.”

The win over Farson advances the Huskies to the next round. They will host No. 3 in the state, Encampment on Friday with kickoff at 1 p.m. “Encampment is a young, talented team. They have some real athletes and play really hard. We will have to clean a few things up and improve in a couple of areas this week. Every week we need to be moving in the right direction,” ended Aagard.
