Huskies see success in Carbon County

The Huskies jumped out to a successful start at the Carbon County Classic, ending the weekend with a 3-1 record. 

Burlington matched up with Encampment Friday and both teams got off to a slow start, heading into halftime with the Huskies up 18-9. The Tigers attempted a comeback in the second half, but the Huskies prevailed, 40-24. Chase Bassett led the team with eight points, Bitner Philpott and Paul McNiven each had six points and Kellen Winters had five points. 

Later in the day, the Huskies earned another win against Hanna-Elk Mountain, 59-37. 

Saturday started with Saratoga, which entered ranked No. 5 in Class 1A. The Panthers put up 18 points in the first quarter but Burlington’s offense clicked and dominated the second and third quarters. With James McNiven in the paint and P. McNiven behind the arc, the Huskies were up 42-32 headed into the fourth quarter. Saratoga wouldn’t be put away and surged back holding the Huskies to just three points and ended the game with an unanswered 12 point streak to win 51-45.. J. McNiven led Burlington with 15 points, P. McNiven contributed 12 points with his four 3 pointers and Philpott added 12 points. 

The final game of the tournament was against Casper Christian and the Huskies won 49-38. 

Burlington hosted Rocky on Tuesday night and will play in Shoshoni at the Wrangler Classic on Friday and Saturday.
