Huskies shut down Ten Sleep, St. Stephens on the road
Burlington won two conference games on the road this week in Ten Sleep and St. Stephens.
The game in Ten Sleep was tied after the first quarter at 10 points, but the Huskies hit their stride and never looked back, winning 82-42. “The stats kind of tell the story I think,” said Coach Dale Cook. “Ten Sleep is young and inexperienced and struggling and we were able to capitalize on that. We got to play everyone and everyone contributed. Bitner (Philpott) has been our high scorer most games. We are getting a lot of help from people coming off the bench. Our young kids really make us a better team.”
Philpott had a stellar night with 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and four steals. M. James McNiven had 12 points and nine rebounds and Kellen Winters added 11 points.
St. Stephens has played well this year and had a 7-2 overall record before the matchup, but Burlington came together and won 72-49. “This game was probably one of our best games. Our defense stepped up for us, limiting St. Stephens to 49 points, which is low for them,” said Cook. “They really have some good shooters and have the potential to be a really good team. It seems like no matter how much we were ahead, I never felt like we could relax. Our kids did a good job of keeping the pressure on them the whole game. We shot pretty well and once again and a lot of kids contribute on both ends of the floor.”
Burlington was an impressive 60% from the field and Philpott once again led the team with 21 points and three steals. M.J. McNiven added 17 points and eight rebounds. K. Winters added 15 points and four assists. Paul McNiven led with nine rebounds and added six points.
The Huskies played in Greybull Tuesday night and will face Riverside in Basin on Friday with JV at 4 and varsity at 7 p.m.
