Huskies top Meeteetse for homecoming
The Huskies hosted Meeteetse on Friday for the homecoming game and emerged with a 52-13 win.
“I thought our boys came out and played hard,” said Coach Trent Aagard. “On a week like this with homecoming and a big rival coming to town you never know how everyone is going to show up. Hats off to Meeteetse, they came in and really played hard. They put us into a couple of situations that we had to fight through and learn on the fly a little bit. They had some early dropped passes that would have definitely made things more interesting.”
Offensively, the Huskies had 359 total yards with 206 of those yards being rushing yards. Weston Gotfredson scored three touchdowns and Jordan Casey and Jordan Broederlow each had two and William Aagard also added one. “Meeteetse seemed to really be focused on shutting down our power run and fortunately we were able to get some other things going,” said Aagard. “I thought Weston had the breakout game that we knew was in there. Both Jordans did an excellent job of running the football and making big plays. Kole Walker came in and did some good things. William Aagard had a couple of big catches for us. It was good to see that we didn’t have to try and force things, but guys stepped up and were able to take what was available. Joe Bassett, Kole and both Jordans were very efficient in the pass game.”
Defensively, the Huskies effectively stopped the Longhorns with over 60 tackles, interceptions by Rykael Andrew and Kyler Winters and a few other forced errors. “I thought our run defense was really strong,” said Aagard. “Joe, Weston, Kyler, Jordan B. and Rykael did a good job in the box and keeping them boxed in. Will and Brikton Wardell did a pretty good job of rushing and making their quarterback nervous. Jordan C. was manned up a lot of the game and did a good job.
“Overall, I thought the boys played well together. There are always things we need to improve on, but I think we are headed in a good direction.”
It is a bye week for the Huskies, they will be back in action on Oct. 18, hosting Riverside for Senior Night. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
