Huskies top two more at home
The Huskies routed both Greybull and Riverside this past week at home.
The Buffs were up first Tuesday night and the Huskies started off quick with a steal from Rykael Andrew who passed it off to Weston Gotfredson for a quick lay up and the very next time down the court saw Jesus Perez with a steal and another fast break lay-up from Andrew.
Burlington continued to outscore Greybull and went into the half with a 23-14 lead. Despite a comeback from the Buffs in the third quarter, the Huskies maintained the lead, eventually winning 46-37.
Bitner Philpott led the team with 14 points, which included four 3-pointers, three rebounds and two steals. Andrew had 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two assists and Gotfredson had seven points and six rebounds.
The Huskies hosted Riverside Friday night for senior night, with all nine of the seniors contributing to the score. Burlington held Riverside to just two free throw points in the first quarter and continued to outscore the Rebels, winning 58-34.
Scoring was spread across the team with Joe Basset leading with 11 points. Paul McNiven threw in eight points, three rebounds and three steals. Andrew had eight points and three steals. Gotfredson had eight points, 10 rebounds and an assist and Bruce McNiven had seven points, seven rebounds and an assist.
“A couple more good wins for the Huskies,” said Coach Kirby Winland. “We can’t get complacent with the success we are experiencing now however. As a team we have to keep our eyes on the state tournament and so this week we go back to work.”
The Huskies will host Meeteetse on Thursday with JV at 4 and varsity at 7 p.m. and will travel to St. Stephens on Saturday with JV at noon and varsity at 3 p.m.
