Burlington’s middle and high school harriers had meets on Thursday, as the high schoolers were in Cody at the Foxes and Hounds Meet and the middle schoolers competed in Thermopolis at the Bobcat Invitational.

“The middle school (team) performed well. Kellen Winters continued his undefeated season,” said Coach Ryan Olson. “He continues to amaze us with his work ethic and his race performances. He decided early on this year that he wanted to do every workout that our high school boys did. Pushing himself this hard has paid off for Kellen. Hyrum McNiven and Jaxon Buck both had great days in Thermopolis as well, finishing within 7 seconds of each other. Ariel Cordova and Spencer Hamilton also had personal best times, which is especially impressive at the Thermopolis golf course, which has some challenging hills.

“On the girls’ side, Kelli McNiven finished second overall with a time of 13:11. Her times have continued to improve each week. I think she’ll be challenging some of our middle school track records in the spring.”

In Cody, the high school team saw some of its best times this season. “This is a fun meet with a fun format that the kids like,” said Olson. “It’s a staggered start, where JV and slower varsity runners begin the race earlier, making for some competitive finishes. Although Howard and Paul McNiven’s times didn’t show in the official results, they both ran great, finishing under 18 minutes. James McNvien ran his best time of the season with 18:26. I’ve been proud of James. His hard work throughout this season has seen his time improve over 90 seconds.”

“Raygen Andrew and Adelle Olson have both been battling injuries over the past couple of weeks, but both showed a lot of heart in running great races in Cody. We will try to get them both healthy as we near the end of the season.”

This week both teams will be in Powell at the Pinnacle Bank/Powell Invitational. The middle schoolers will be finishing their season with their conference meet and the high school will finish their regular season. The middle school boys’ race starts at noon and the high School races will start at 1 p.m.
