Burlington’s speech and debate team jumped right back into competition at the Hot Springs Speech and Debate Tournament in Thermopolis over the weekend. The tournament featured 10 teams and more than 120 entries.

Burlington continued to see success and Coach Scott McBride was pleased with their results. “They all received great feedback for what to improve on going forward and it was a great second varsity tournament. 100% of our competitors broke (which means they made it to the finals).”

The team took first in the 1A/2A Sweepstakes. Sky Olsen broke in Oratory and placed sixth, Orabella Heaton broke in Poetry and placed fifth, Jessica Mendez broke in Oratory and Program Oral Interpretation (POI), placing fourth and third, respectively, and Kitzen Schatz broke in Student Congress and placed second.

“They did great! During their downtime, they all worked to improve pieces between rounds and reflected on what went well or not so well, they have wonderful growth mindsets!” ended McBride.

The Huskies will head to Worland to compete on Friday and Saturday in the Worlando Beach Tournament.
