Interpretive Ranger Katie leads the way

The motto of the U.S. Army Ranger’s 75th Regiment is “Rangers Lead the Way.” The same could be said about Wyoming State Parks interpretive ranger Katie Singleton.

You may have read in this paper last month an article by Singleton regarding Leave No Trace. She is passionate about working every day to improve communities and enrich lives.

Katie recently joined the Big Horn District of State Parks after serving in two other districts. This district includes Boysen, Buffalo Bill, Hot Springs and Medicine Lodge state parks.

There are a ton of programs she has organized for each of the parks in this district. From stargazing to fly fishing lessons, to paint in the park, campouts, paddle the river, woman’s hike, free fishing day (June 7), car rally, bison hike, full moon hike, haunted hike, concerts, junior ranger camp, petroglyph tour, family fun day, on and on.

The events are great for the family and for those out-of-state friends who come to visit and wonder what there is to do.

Until I became a commissioner for State Parks & Cultural Resources, I had no idea of how much there was to do and see at the parks/site. The immersive Cultural Experience at Medicine Lodge will take you back 10,000 years. It is a one-of-a-kind experience. Should be on your summer list of things to do for sure.

There are a couple ways you can see the happenings. Go to the Wyoming Staycation Facebook page run by the Basin Area Chamber. It shares events from all the state parks, trails, cultural and historic sites. You can also go to the Facebook pages of any of the Big Horn District parks or this website, https://wyoparks.wyo.gov/

Ranger Katie along with any of the State Parks staff will “lead the way” to you finding something unexpected. They are awesome that way. Hopefully this summer, you’ll be leading the way to fun adventures right here in Wyoming.
