James “Jim” Warner

Jim Warner, resident of Basin, Wyo., and born in Ten Sleep to Dicy (Leithead) and Clifford Warner, passed away on June 15, 2024. Jim was born Oct. 14, 1941, into a country that needed tough men, and was one of four brothers. During his lifetime, that toughness saw him through childhood, college at Rocky Mountain in Billings, Mont., and many different jobs across the west. Of those jobs, some of his most memorable were his time as a rodeo clown on the circuit, a school teacher, his Saddle & Tack Shop in Basin where he made amazing craft leather commissions, and his time at Rendezvous, building buffalo boats.
He was a community man and enjoyed the groups of people he lived around and worked with. He was always happy to help a neighbor and always gave more than he ever asked for. He loved to tell stories. He would talk of the old west, the people and the land. He would talk about family and friends, their travels and adventures, and he would teach the importance of both. His stories around the campfire, or family gatherings or rodeo grandstand were often favorite memories of those who knew him. We loved his stories. Now, we get to tell his.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, brother Lyle and granddaughter Tanlie Warner.
He is survived by his wife, Debby; brothers, Nevin and Melvin; children, grandchildren and loving family.
